  • GUARDIAN OF THE FLAME ESCORTS

Again this year there is an opportunity for your conference attendees to participate in the Guardians of the Flame® Miner’s Lamp Escort featured at the general sessions at this year’s LETR International Conference in San Antonio.

Please note that we have 40 positions available - so please limit your nominations to one name per program

All Guardian of the Flames Escort nominations are due no later than
    Friday, August 30, 2024

    CRITERIA FOR THE SUBMISSION OF
'GUARDIAN OF THE FLAME' ESCORT NOMINATIONS

The only criteria that we would like to emphasize as you make your selection is that this is intended to be an opportunity for attendees in good standing, who may not have otherwise received significant recognition or awards from Council or their individual programs, such as Hall of Fame, John Carion, Final Leg selection and the like. This is really an opportunity to engage your newest LETR member and or program’s LETR “hot prospect” for whom you wish to create an international participation opportunity that may solidify their future involvement.

Further, we hope to instil not only in the participants of this processional, but also in the general body of attendees, the significance of being a Guardian of the Flame. While a relatively simple concept and ceremony, selected participants should be extremely honored to be involved.

Please provide ONE name of a confirmed conference attendee that meets the above criteria who would be willing to bring their dress uniform, including hat (no weapons), to the conference and wear it to at least one general session. Those selected to be in the Guardians of the Flame Miner’s Lamp Escort will be sent further instructions on where and to whom to report at the conference.

Guardians of the Flame will carry the Miner’s Lamp into all general sessions except Opening Ceremony (exit only). Each group of the Guardians of the Flame Miner’s Lamp Escort will be comprised of four officers. Guardians assigned to the Honors Luncheon will also participate in the “In Remembrance” Tribute during the luncheon, to honor and pay tribute to the law enforcement men and women who were active in the Law Enforcement Torch Run® movement and have passed away since last year’s conference.

All Guardians are invited to wear their uniforms to the HOF Banquet and participate in the closing ceremony when the Torch is exchanged between Texas and Minnesota, our conference hosts for 2025. The increased number of uniforms during the ceremony should be impressive as well as rewarding for the participants.

  • IACP PHOTO CONTEST

THE 'IACP PHOTO CONTEST' WILL OPEN ON MAY 1

  • THE GUARDIAN STORY
The “Guardian Story” was a new feature introduced at the LETR International Conference in 2022, as an opportunity to “tell the story”, of our movement’s amazing Torch Runners.  This is not an award, but rather an opportunity to recognize Torch Runners who have demonstrated an unparalleled commitment, passion, overcame challenges, or achieved exceptional triumphs in support of the athletes of Special Olympics.

We are looking for stories that are inspirational, motivational and deserve to be highlighted before our movement, stories that
NEED to be shared. These can be stories of a single individual or a group of individuals.

Certainly, there are many of these stories throughout our global programs, but unfortunately time prohibits us from sharing all of them during the conference.  To that end, not all stories will be showcased but will be considered for the following year.  Should you have a Torch Runner with a story worthy of sharing, we would like to hear from you.  A panel, chaired by the International Conference Planning Committee, will review all submissions.  Those stories selected to be showcased will be presented to the international conference attendees at a general session during the conference.  Specific times or sessions cannot be guaranteed.  A representative of the selection committee will notify the submission authors of those being selected well in advance of the conference.

    SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The International Conference Planning Committee production team will create these presentations.

Each submission must include the following information. Please adhere to the submission requirements as requested.  Failure to meet any submission requirement as requested may result in dismissal of your proposal.

    • All submissions must be entirely digital and submitted to the email provided.
    • 2-4 high quality photos of the Torch Runner(s)/event to be highlighted, capable of reproduction. (For example, if you are submitting a story about a torch runner organizing an event, we would want some photos of this person at the event

    • No more than two typed pages, briefly capturing the following:

    o   Name
    o   Program
o   Years involved with Torch Run
    o   Agency
    o   Story to be shared.
o   Include nominator’s name, program and email.

Please send all submissions to Lisa Carlone at: lisac@soct.org no later than August 30, 2023.

Confirmation of receipt will be sent to the nominator.
