Christy Wentzell

Christy Wentzell is a dedicated law enforcement professional with 25 years of experience. She currently serves as a Captain in the Criminal Investigations Division at the Apex Police Department in North Carolina. Throughout her career, Christy has worked in various divisions including Patrol, CID, Narcotics, and Administration. She has a particular fondness for her time in the Narcotics division, where she worked undercover. Christy is also a Crisis Negotiator since 2005 and has served as a CNT Commander for eight years. Additionally, she is a General Instructor and has developed women’s self-defense programs for each department she has worked with.

Christy’s involvement in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics is deeply personal. Growing up with foster siblings who had special needs, she developed a profound empathy and understanding that has carried over into her law enforcement career. The LETR has allowed her to combine her love of running with her commitment to service. Over the last ten years, she has become more involved in fundraising activities such as the Polar Plunge, Cop on a Donut Shop, and Boot Drives. Christy will serve as a Chairman Appointee to the Executive Council and be a liaison for the National Association of Women in Law Enforcement.
