Jan Branderhorst is a superintendent of the National Police of the Netherlands and Region IX Coordinator on the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) International Executive Council. He has been involved with LETR since 1996 when he was “voluntold” by his boss, who was a board member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). He has taken on multiple roles in different Final Legs for Special Olympics World Games, including being a Final Leg Torch Runner in Athens 2011 and serving as a Logistics Team Member in both Abu Dhabi 2019 and Torino 2025.
Jan is a project leader for investigations of organized crime, with a specialty in the field of art, antiquities, and cultural heritage. He has a long and diverse career in law enforcement, starting as a patrol officer and working as a detective, an internal affairs investigator, and a team leader for organized crime. He has a police academy degree and various other training courses focused on crime-related matters. He is passionate about supporting Special Olympics athletes and raising awareness and funds for the movement.
