Michael “Mick” Olsen, a retired Senior Sergeant from Victoria Police, has been a cornerstone of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics in Victoria, Australia. Serving with Victoria Police for over 40 years, Mick retired in August 2022 after an illustrious career marked by numerous commendations and medals, including the Australian Police Medal for distinguished service. He has been deeply involved in the LETR program since its inception in Victoria in 2008, holding various leadership roles such as President of LETR Victoria from 2012 to 2019 and Oceania Regional Coordinator on the LETR Executive Council since 2017. Mick’s dedication to Special Olympics extends beyond LETR, as he has also served as an athlete mentor and a representative on the SO Victoria Club Forum.
Mick’s professional journey is distinguished by his extensive experience in general duties, crime investigations, and specialized operations like arson investigation, covert operations, and tactical operations. He has held critical roles as a detective, station commander, policy advisor, and project lead, showcasing his versatility and leadership in law enforcement. His educational background includes a Year 12 certificate and a Certificate 4 in Workplace Training and Assessment, along with Prince 2 project management certification. Mick’s commitment to excellence and service is reflected in his various qualifications and the impactful roles he has played throughout his career.
