Patrick Hoey has been deeply involved in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics since 1987, soon after beginning his law enforcement career. His passion for the Torch Run grew as he recognized its profound impact on athletes and their families, leading him to serve in various capacities with the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run program including Department Coordinator, State Committee Member, Assistant Torch Run Director and 2007 Final Leg team member in China. In 2016, Patrick was elected to the International Executive Council as the Region IV Coordinator, a position he still holds. His commitment to the LETR has also seen him co-chair the 2023 International Conference. Through his extensive involvement, Patrick has forged enduring friendships with law enforcement and athletes worldwide, finding the experience immensely rewarding. His professional and personal dedication to the Special Olympics movement reflects his unwavering commitment to raising funds and awareness for the cause.
Patrick Hoey has dedicated over three decades to law enforcement, culminating in his role as Chief of Police across three Illinois police departments. He is an alumnus of the 261st session of the FBI National Academy and holds a B.S. in Law Enforcement Administration from Western Illinois University, as well as a Certificate in Graduate Studies from Northern Illinois University.
